WASHINGTON Feb. 26, 2025 / The global counter-illicit finance mission has evolved over the past generation in important ways. Its objectives have expanded from anti-money laundering / countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) to include sanctions, countering the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, anti-bribery and corruption, and more. And the mission has grown increasingly complex.
The increasing interdependence and sophistication of the international financial system and the global economy expose countries, their financial institutions, and other organizations to an unprecedented, expanding, and complex range of financial crimes, collective security threats, and related systemic risks. Furthermore, threats to national and collective security targeted by sanctions regimes have converged, in many ways, with serious organized crime targeted by AML/CFT regimes.
Well-trained financial integrity professionals who understand these disciplines and their convergence will be better positioned to advance their careers, the interests of their enterprises, and the broader financial integrity mission. To fill this critical need, IFI has launched the Certified Financial Integrity Professional (CFIP) certification.
The CFIP program is designed to help develop a new generation of professionals dedicated to careers in protecting and enhancing the integrity of the global financial system, including individuals in the public, private, and non-profit sectors involved in:
- Protecting the financial system from use by illicit actors, including money launderers, terrorism financiers, proliferators of WMD, sanctions evaders, kleptocrats, fraudsters, tax evaders, narcotics traffickers, transnational criminal organizations, and human rights abusers; and
- Combating financial crimes and threats to our collective security through the development and implementation of AML/CFT regimes and financial and economic sanctions.
“The CFIP Program is a giant leap above anything else on the market. Other certification programs tend to be old-school, narrowly focused, and overly basic,” said Danny McGlynn, IFI’s President and Chief Integrity Officer.
“We were intentional about developing a learning experience that’s ambitious, modern, and fit for purpose to address today’s complex illicit financing challenges.”
Starting today, the CFIP program is available for registration here. The program includes three e-learning plans (ELPs) containing dynamic and engaging content spanning foundational, intermediate and advanced topics to develop knowledge and prepare for the final certification exam.
“We are in an environment of conflict and competition. We can’t view sanctions, AML/CFT, anti-corruption, export controls as separate disciplines,” said Juan Zarate, Global Co-Managing Partner and Chief Strategy Officer at K2 Integrity and author of Treasury’s War: The Unleashing of a New Era of Financial Warfare. “They are part and parcel of broad tools that the West must use to defend national economies and counter state and non-state threats,” said Zarate, who also co-chairs IFI’s Advisory Board.
